Results

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national level examination that tests the comprehensive understanding of the candidates in various undergraduate subjects in Engineering/Technology/Architecture and post-graduate level subjects in Science. The GATE score is used for admissions to post-graduate programs (eg. M.E., M.Tech, direct Ph.D.) in Indian institutes of higher education with financial assistance provided by MHRD and other Government agencies. The score is also used by many Public Sector Undertakings for employment screening purposes.
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs at Bombay,
Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur,
Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee) jointly
administer the conduct
of GATE. Indian Institute
of Technology Kharagpur is the Organizing Institute for GATE 2014. The GATE 2014 results are released on 27th March 2014 at 21:30 hrs. The candidates can access the results by logging onto the GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS) website.
A total of 10,33,625 candidates have registered for GATE 2014 and 8,89,156 candidates (86.02%) have appeared for the exam. Out of the total candidates registered, 30.17 % are female candidates while the rest are male candidates and others.
For the first time, the 3-hour GATE 2014 examination was conducted in computer
based ONLINE
mode for all the 22 papers.
This year
a
new GATE
paper, Ecology
and Evolution
has been introduced.
The examination for
all
the papers
was conducted
in 9 sessions
spread over
3
weekends, starting from 2nd February 2014 and ending on 2nd March 2014. The examination was
conducted in over 660 centres spread over 26 states and union territories of the country.
Out of the registered
candidates, 86% of the Male and 85% of the Female registrants appeared for the examination. In terms of the number of candidates, the five largest papers are:
Electronics and
Communication Engineering
(2,16,367),
Mechanical Engineering (1,85,578),
Computer Science and Information Technology (1,55,190),
Electrical Engineering (1,41,799) and
Civil Engineering (90,872).

Examination for all these papers was conducted in multi-session mode. A suitable
normalization method has been followed for these papers.
In GATE 2014, based on the qualified
marks criterion, 1,49,694 (16.84%) candidates will be receiving the scorecards.
In terms of the category
as declared by the candidates (General, OBC(NCL), SC, ST
and PwD), 85,063 General, 42,287 OBC(NCL),
17,085 SC, 4224 ST and 1035 PwD candidates will be
receiving the scorecards. The number of female candidates
receiving the scorecards
is 31,431 (21% of
the total).
This year 17 PSUs have signed MoUs with IIT Kharagpur to receive the GATE 2014 results
across various papers.
The candidates need to apply separately to each of the IITs, IISc, NITs and other institutes/universities to seek admission to various post-graduate and doctoral programmes. The candidates have to visit the
websites of the respective institutes/universities for details regarding the admission.
